Classic Characters

The process has been different for each of us, and certainly, is and has been an opportunity to explore our connections to the ancestors,
our commitment to our medium of artistic expression.
The brilliance of creating story from dream, vision, musings, inspiration and work manifest here.
In addition, the group of people continues to find ways of supporting each other in being just as fabulous as our alter-egos, just as daring as the names we choose as aliases and just as righteous as the folks that walked this road of success before us.
We are making history as we rewrite it.
These characters are us, then.
The progression has been drastic from one show to another and it is with gratitude that we remain diligent to keeping the material fresh and fun for ourselves and those brave enough to travel to us on a performance night.
New characters just ahead.

*Please note not shown here Captain Phineas Salt our Master of Ceremonies and resident debaucher.

What to Expect

Circus Rituals is Sanctuary’s bi monthly production of music, dance and other visual narratives of timeless characters. Staged in late 1900’s vaudeville or circus sideshow style, set in 19th century French Salon Movement and rooted in the traditional art forms of indigenous peoples the world over...
Some of history’s most misunderstood and mistreated archetypes tell their stories of abuse, discontent and certain victory.
The rotating cast is comprised of local and visiting artisans.
The event features photography, live performances from musicians, dancers and otherwise inclined storytellers.
A maestro on turntables, mixes classic grooves from the 19th- 21st century for your auditory pleasure.

The drinks, while they last, are always free. If you're arriving late, BYOB.

Hoping to See You

We kings, queens, brothers, sisters of truth, peace makers, holy rollers and fast talkers...
Well, we prepare the den of antiquity and our feast of fancy for you to devour!
Come and see us at our finest hour!

Inspiration & Dedication

The show Circus Rituals and the process of producing the work that has been or one day might be included is a labor of love.
In recognition of the beauty of a life live through and for art.
For the spiritual practices throughout the ages.
We continue to delve deeper and deeper into our other wordly minds.
All the while pulling forward characters timeless and wise.
In being such receptive conductors of history and legend, we are given the gift of remembrance.
Recollection of an ancestor who danced and laughed and wove a splendid tale of unrequited love, amidst their family- living in captivity.
We honor the people that in the name of life, surrendered their bodies but not their spirits to oppressive powers.
A blessing be upon this show, the stage is set for the characters to be known, the cast to be celebrated and the experience to be relished by all.
Circus Rituals bows in respect to the sexual, sensuous energy that brings us life and joy, the anger and fear that forces us to open our eyes wide, a still decisiveness that draws us nearer to our absolute purpose and the cold air that reminds us to huddle in the warmth of communion.
All sins are forgiven, all people are equal, misery and strife are acknowledged and promptly dismissed.
Each evening different than the last, the concoction becomes more potent.
Drink us in.
Ache.
